I have such a treat for you! We are going to spend the day with one of my favorite SuthinGirls, Kristin Williams, buyer and professional stylist at Berlin’s for Women in historic downtown Charleston, SC.
Kristin is going to show us around the store and give us the scoop on what trends we should be buying right now to freshen up our spring closet!
When you fall in love with something (probably more like somethings), it’s easy to make it yours! Simply click on any link in the post and you’ll be directed right to Berlin’s online shopping page.
Having grown up in Savannah, another gorgeous historic city in the lowcountry, I have a personal connection to Charleston as well as family who live there. A little SuthinGirl trivia for you before we begin: I used to think I was named for the character Ashley from Gone With the Wind, but noooope! SuthinMama says I was named for the Ashley River, a tidal river that flows right through the city of Charleston. True story! Alright, girls… Ready? Let’s go! And we’re off to Charleston…
Charleston was just waking up this morning when we began our day with Kristin at the venerable Berlin’s, holding court over the southern fashion scene since 1883 at the corner of Broad & King.
Oh, if these walls could talk… Inside Berlin’s for Women.
THE ORIGINAL BEST FRIENDS… Pam and Gela were the maximalist masterminds behind the extraordinary Juicy Couture brand. They created an unapologetic world where more was fun. Their unique take on everyday luxury and irreverent fashion expression served as an inspiration to a whole new generation of young designers and paved the gilded way for progressive, up and coming ready-to-wear brands. Now, they’re back…with Pam & Gela!
Lacing is a BIG embellishment trend this spring. I remember how fresh 3.1 Phillip Lim’s baseball stitch lace-up dresses looked last summer, and am glad to see this designer detail has found its way onto a variety of spring fashions including lounge wear, like this set from Pam & Gela.
Kristin and I were just talking about how perfect this set would be for a date night at home when you want to look cute and feel comfy.
Frame denim and springy Eva & Claudi sequened v-neck tee. Coveting this Pam & Gela bedazzled—OMG bedazzzzled—Y’ALL t-shirt!
SuthinGirl is most definitely adding this beautiful Needle & Thread sequined bomber jacket to her closet this spring!
Needle & Thread beaded and sequined pieces hang alongside Jay Godfrey’s confident red dresses.
Shoshanna’s lace dresses would be perfect at a spring garden party with some fab nude heels. Or grab your mint julep and the biggest, most fabulous hat you can find, and wear one to a Derby party!
How do you like Rachel Zoe’s on-trend lace up dress in this confident red? I’m partial to anything with sweet bell sleeves.
This sunny, strapless dress by Jay Godfrey would look amaaaazing paired with your turquoise jewelry! My shopping cart is loading up as we speak…eeeek!
Did you notice the adorable spring clutch is even sequined? Love Berlin’s selection of handbags.
Doesn’t this picture make you happy? Look at the racks filling up with colorful, spring styles at Berlin’s!
‘There is no such thing as a chic American woman. The one exception is Nan Kempner.’ DIANA VREELAND
Good lord, what I wouldn’t give to have someone like Diana Vreeland (not that there will ever, ever be another Diana Vreeland) say something like that about me one day!!!
Socialite / philanthropist Nan Kempner was an icon and fixture in both the fashion and party pages during the 1970s, 80s and 90s. She was renowned for her effortless chic style and legendary wardrobe. Plus, she was a lot of fun!
Nan’s grandchildren, brother and sister Chris and Meggie Kempner, launched Kempner fashion label a couple of years ago. I’m kinda thinking they inherited their Grand Nan’s sense of style! Below are several looks from their Spring 2016 line…
Long vests are another hot trend for the spring! This Kempner gingham long vest could also work as a dress if you’re petite.
Kempner loves gingham and SuthinGirl loves separates. Buy one outfit and you get three…just pair each piece with a solid and voilà!
Kempner top and skirt; love the subtle stud embellishment (big spring trend and oh-so-Valentino-esque.)
Blouse with fun shoulder tie detail. Denim (big spring trend) pieced fabric mini skirt with tassel tie at waist. Both pieces by Elle Sasson.
Another great mix-and-match opportunity with Elle Sasson’s tropical print and bright red separates.
Cabana life! Elle Sasson blue and white striped top with tassel tie at neck and flouncy Jonathan Simkhai skirt.
Berlin’s carries a bunch of fun handbags at price points that make adding one to every outfit verrrrry tempting!!
How about this long vest by Drew (over long or short sleeves) and these ankle fray jeans from Mother? Kristin shared that ankle fray jeans are a cult fave so I’m totally adding a pair to my extensive (embarrassingly so) denim collection.
Pair a tank top with some Frame denim and this lightweight Pam & Gela moto jacket or show your true colors in this Maliparmi Lurex sparkly striped sweater.
